Before you spend another month guessing, find out what’s actually wrong
Most SEO problems aren’t effort problems. The money is already being spent — on content, on links, on a retainer. The problem is that nobody has worked out what’s stopping the site from ranking.
That’s what a diagnostic audit is for. Not a crawler export. A ranked list of what’s wrong, why it matters and what it takes to fix — written for a human to act on.
In short
A fixed-scope diagnostic of one site. Technical, content, links and the live SERP. You get a prioritised fix list and a call to walk through it.
From $300 · turnaround [ N working days ]
No retainer required. Plenty of clients take the audit and implement it themselves.
Symptoms
You’re probably here because one of these is true
Traffic dropped and nobody can tell me why.
A core update, a migration or a redesign — and the graph never came back.
We’re publishing constantly and nothing moves.
The content is fine. Something else is capping it.
A worse site outranks us.
Slower, thinner, uglier — and above you anyway.
Pages aren’t getting indexed.
Or they were, and now they aren’t, and Search Console isn’t explaining it.
We’ve been paying a retainer for a year.
The reports look busy. The revenue doesn’t.
Every one of those has a cause. It is findable. That’s the whole job.
What I look at
Four angles, because the cause is rarely where you’re looking
Most audits check one of these and call it a day. A technical audit that ignores the SERP tells you your site is clean, not why you’re losing.
1
Technical & indexation
Crawling, indexation, site architecture, internal linking, redirects, canonicals, JavaScript rendering and Core Web Vitals. Log files where they’re available and worth reading.
2
Content & intent
Whether the pages you’re ranking match what the query actually wants. Cannibalisation, thin and duplicated pages, and the gap between what you publish and what gets shown.
3
Link profile
What you have, what it’s worth, and what’s holding you back. Historic link damage is one of the more common reasons a technically clean site still can’t move.
4
The live SERP
How Google treats your site against these specific competitors, on these specific queries. This is the part that turns a list of issues into a ranked plan.
What you get
A prioritised fix list, not a 90-page PDF
Length is not a deliverable. A long audit that nobody implements is worth nothing. This is written to be worked through, top to bottom, by whoever is doing the work.
- The diagnosis. What is stopping this site from ranking, stated plainly, with the evidence behind it.
- A ranked fix list. Biggest impact first, with an honest effort estimate against each one, so you can draw a line wherever your budget runs out.
- Specifications your developer can act on. Not “improve internal linking” — what to change, where, and what it should look like afterwards.
- What I would ignore. Most audit tools flag hundreds of issues that don’t matter. Knowing what to skip saves more money than the fixes do.
- A walkthrough call. We go through it together so nothing is lost in translation, and you can push back on any of it.
- It’s yours. Implement it in-house, hand it to your existing agency, or hire me. All three happen regularly.
How it runs
Four steps, and you’re not chasing me for updates
1
A call
Twenty minutes. You tell me the site and what’s been happening. I tell you what I’d look at first and whether an audit is even the right spend.
2
Access
Read-only Search Console and analytics, and server logs if you have them. Nothing that lets me change your site.
3
The work
[ N working days ]. If I find something urgent — an indexation block, a bad redirect chain — you hear about it that day, not at the end.
4
The walkthrough
We go through the findings together, in order. Bring your developer or your agency — it’s usually a better call with them on it.
Fit
When an audit is worth it — and when it isn’t
Worth it if
- The site has history — traffic, rankings, something to diagnose against
- You’ve lost traffic and the explanations you’ve been given don’t add up
- You’re about to commit real budget and want to know where to point it
- You have people who can implement — in-house, an agency, a developer
- You want to understand the problem, not just receive a monthly report
Not worth it if
- The site launched last month and has no data to diagnose
- You already know what’s wrong and just need hands to fix it
- Nobody will have time to implement anything for the next six months
- You need results inside 30 days
- You want a document to satisfy a stakeholder rather than change anything
FAQ
Questions I get asked about the audit
What do I actually get?
A prioritised fix list — what’s wrong, why it matters, what it takes to fix, ranked by impact. Written for a human, not exported from a crawler. It’s yours to keep and implement however you like, including without me.
Isn’t this just a crawler export?
No. A crawl is one input, and it’s the easy part — you could run it yourself in an afternoon. What you’re paying for is the judgement about which of those findings are actually costing you rankings, on your queries, against your competitors — and which are noise. Most of them are noise.
Do I have to hire you to implement it?
No, and there’s no retainer attached. The audit stands on its own, and plenty of clients take it and implement it themselves or hand it to the agency they already have. If you do want me to do the work, we can talk about that after you’ve seen the findings — not before.
What if you find nothing wrong?
It hasn’t happened yet. But if the technical and content side is genuinely clean, then the answer is competitive — you’re up against stronger sites — and I’ll tell you that plainly, including if my honest advice is to spend the money somewhere other than SEO.
How long before I see results from the fixes?
Depends entirely on what’s wrong. A fixable indexation problem can turn around in weeks. Rebuilding authority after a bad link history takes months. The audit tells you which situation you’re in — that’s most of its value, and it’s why I won’t guess before doing one.
Can you work with my existing developer or agency?
Yes, and often that’s the cheapest route. I diagnose and specify, they implement. I’m happy to be on their calls.
Let’s find out what’s actually wrong
Twenty minutes on a call. Tell me the site and what’s been happening, and I’ll tell you what I’d look at first. No pitch deck. No contract. No sequence of automated follow-up emails.
