How do you market a personal injury law firm?

Short answer

Get into the map pack, build a real page for each case type and each area you serve, keep reviews coming steadily, use paid search for cases you need now, and fix intake before buying more visibility. The firms that do well rarely have a secret channel. They do these few things properly and keep doing them.

Personal injury marketing is expensive and crowded, so it attracts a lot of tactics. Most of them are variations on a short list of things that actually decide where cases come from. Here is that list, in the order I would work through it for a firm.

1. The map pack and your Business Profile

For most local injury searches, the three firms shown on the map take a large share of the calls, and page-two organic results bring almost nothing. Google says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change your distance from the searcher. You can make the profile as relevant and prominent as possible.

The primary category is the biggest single lever in this vertical. Check it against the firms actually ranking in your pack. Then complete everything else: secondary categories, services for each case type you take, hours, photos, a description that uses its space well.

2. Practice area pages, properly

A page for each type of case the firm actually takes: car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, slip and fall, wrongful death, whatever applies. Each should explain the situation, what the client should do now, how the process works and what the firm’s experience is. I wrote about this choice in one personal injury page, or fifteen?

3. Service area pages, honestly

If the firm genuinely handles cases across a metro, a page for each area makes sense: different courts, different accident patterns, different local detail. One page duplicated with the town name swapped is a doorway, and it fails as a set. The test I use is whether the page would still be useful with the place name deleted.

4. Reviews, steadily

Review frequency matters more than total count. A firm with sixty reviews and a new one every fortnight outranks one with two hundred from three years ago, and it convinces more people too. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found 74% of consumers want reviews from the last three months. Build asking into the end of every case.

5. Paid search for the near term

SEO takes weeks to start showing and months to prove. If the firm needs cases this quarter, ads are the right tool, expensive as they are. Focus them on the case types and areas you most want, rather than the broadest and most expensive terms.

6. Intake, before anything else gets more money

More visibility only helps if the calls are answered quickly and well. I ask every firm who picks up at seven in the evening. A firm ranking first with calls going to voicemail is mostly paying to send cases elsewhere.

What the results can look like

On one firm whose strategy I set, working as a consultant alongside a white label agency, the work covered practice area pages, service area pages, full profile optimisation, consistent profile posts, blog posts on clients’ real questions, rebuilt titles and headings, internal links and link building. Profile views over the year totalled 13,330, and the daily rate stepped up from ten to twenty a day to forty to seventy-five a day, starting two to three weeks after the work went live.

Everything went live at roughly the same time, so I cannot say which piece moved the number, and neither can anyone else showing a similar chart. And those are profile views, not signed cases. But the sequence is real.

What I would not spend on

Generic blog posts every firm already has. Directory listings by the hundred. Link packages from sites nobody reads. Profile posts as a ranking tactic: Google has never confirmed they affect ranking, though they can help the person reading the profile.

Referrals still matter

Search is only part of the picture. Many injury cases still come through other attorneys who do not handle injury work, medical providers who treat accident patients, and former clients. Those referral sources check you online too, so the same website and profile work supports them. It is worth keeping a simple list of who refers cases, and making sure each of them can easily find a page that explains what the firm does for the clients they send.

How to measure it

Track every enquiry to its source and through to a signed retainer. Report search and paid separately, and report the map pack separately from organic results if you can, using a tagged link on the Business Profile website button. After three months you will know which channels bring signed cases at a sensible cost, and the budget conversation becomes much simpler. Firms that only track rankings or calls tend to keep paying for activity that never signs anyone.

How long it takes

Profile fixes can move visibility within weeks. Practice and service area pages usually take a few months to settle. In a top-five metro against firms spending five figures a month for years, be realistic about the ceiling, and consider narrowing to the part of the market you can actually win.

If you want a plan built in this order for your firm, my SEO for personal injury law firms starts with the map pack and your practice pages, and asks about intake on the first call.
